City Palace Complex

Built on the banks of Lake Pichola, the foundations of the City Palace Complex, Udaipur was laid by Maharana Udai Singhji when he decided to build a new capital for the Sisodia rulers of Chittorgarh, Rajasthan.

The City Palace Complex is essentially a fortified city with massive walls enclosing a mini township within its folds. There are several gigantic gateways that lead to the City Palace Complex. The Hati Pol was the most significant as royal personages always passed through this entrance. Among the other gateways the Bara Pol and Tripolia Pol were significant in the olden days.

There are a number of grand imperial buildings located within the City Palace Complex, Udaipur. A fascinating mosaic of stone courtyards, marble pavilions, royal palaces, shrines and other heritage structures form the mini township within the City Palace walls.

The architectural variety at the City Palace Complex is a fascinating blend of Chinese, Rajputana and Mughal.

Explore the exotic Mor Chowk and tour Sheesh Mahal, Dilkhush Mahal, Krishna Mahal, Bada Mahal, Laxmi Vilas Chowk and the Moti Mahal while on City Palace Udaipur tours.

Manak Mahal, Bhim Vilas and Amar Vilas located within the City Palace Complex in Udaipur are equally enchanting monuments. The humongous stone courtyard located just after the Bara Pol was of special significance. In the medieval days this courtyard served as the venue for elephant fights.

The City Palace Museum displays a whopping variety of regal treasure, relics from the Mewar royal household and some of the most spectacular examples of miniature paintings.

The oldest section of the City Palace Complex in Udaipur is the Raj Aangan that was constructed by Maharana Udai Singhji. The Chini Chitrashala at City Palace Udaipur displays an interesting collection of Chinese and Dutch objects d' art.
