Impenetrable and imposing the Amber Fort stands poised on top of a wooded hill on the outskirts of Jaipur, Rajasthan. Located at a 11-kilometer drive from Jaipur, Amber was the capital of the brave Minas before the Kachhawa Rajputs inherited the fort and rebuilt it.

Before Maharaja Sawai Man Singhji came up with the idea of building a new city, Amber served as the capital of Kacchawa Rajputs for several centuries. Amber overlooks the glistening waters of Maota Lake and offers uninterrupted views of enthralling vistas all around.

The rugged exteriors of Amber are in perfect contrast with its exquisite interiors. Several structures within the Amber Fort walls are more than 7 hundred years old. Amber encloses an entire city within its imposing fort walls.

The Amber Fort is divided into four sections. The Main fort gate that was also used by the royalty in the olden days is known as the Suraj Pol that leads to a vast stone courtyard - the Jaleb Chowk.

Just across the Jaleb Chowk is the ancient Shila Devi Temple or the Kali Temple that boasts of an ancient history and features massive silver lions. There is a beautifully carved statute of Lord Ganesha at the doorway leading to the main temple premises.

See the Diwan I Aam, a courtyard of enormous proportions flanked by a lattice screen on one side. This served as the common hall of audience where the Maharaja interacted with the common man, heard petitions and made decisions.

Ganesh Pol, a gloriously carved gateway leads towards the royal quarters of the Maharaja. Explore the Jai Mandir, Sukh Niwas, Zenana etc.

The royal quarters at Amber are decorated with delicate paintings in vibrant hues. Mirror work, mosaics and lavish architectural friezes.

Amber is an excellent illustration of Hindu and Muslim building styles used in perfect sync to create a marvelous work of art.
