RAJGIR - This was the capital of the Magadha Empire before it was shifted to Patna in 5th century BC. It is a very important Buddhist site as Buddha spent 12 years here. It was also the site of the first Buddhist council after the Buddha attained nirvana. It is an important Jain site also as Mahavira, the last Tirthankara, spent some time here. Ruins of the ancient city, LaksShmi Narayan temple and some Jain and Buddhist sites are of interest.

RAJKOT - Rajkot was the old capital of Saurashtra, which forms part of Gujarat now. It was also an important British headquarter. Mahatma Gandhi spent some early years here and his home displays an exhibition. Watson Museum & Library has some interesting artifacts from the pre-Aryan civilization of India.
